It was truly one of the best books I have read regarding soil chemistry and animal health

I have known Brian McLeod for nearly 50 years, mainly from the 1970s and where I was also an international consultant agronomist until retirement in 2002 (for 20 years now researching human health).

Recently, through pure chance I had the pleasure to reconnect and to read his very detailed and informative field manual that he diligently prepared throughout his career. It is a most comprehensive reference work that every farmer should keep close at hand because not only does it clearly explain just how soils, with their many intricate factors relate to sustainability, optimum production, animal health and resultant product quality, actually work. But also included are many practical anecdotal stories from Bryans long experience and which he tells in ways that farmers may truly relate to.

I wish Bryan all the best successes and may he still be consulting for many years into the future.

Bryan has not only been a wonderful friend and mentor, but his manual is a constant companion on my desk from which I can quickly find answers to many questions on aspects of soil, plant and animal health.

The body of work is comprehensive.

For the farmer or orchardist wanting to find answers on under performance of crops, to how different nutrients, proteins etc affect animal health, combined with mitigation strategies, this manual contains a great many of the answers to questions that I get asked.

Having the necessary information to be better able to interpret one's own soil tests is great for people keen to really understand what should be being applied to their property and why.

Anyone wanting to become involved in their own decision making processes on farm, and doing so with a good understanding of why, would benefit from this work that is the end product of many years of working in the field, both in New Zealand and overseas.

Great manual, allowing a layman(farmer, gardener) to put all the jigsaw pieces ( minerals) together to complete the picture ( fully functioning soil). Full explanation on mineral balance which is missing in many writings. With examples and explanations on remedies. Clearly explaining the interactions between minerals and how correct balance is king for the big picture (functioning soil). Also with,' How To,' read soil reports and develop remedies for each individual situation. Great read, resource and a must for anyone working with the soil.
